To be fair, everywhere you go you will find drivers that see a yellow traffic light and speed up instead of slow down. However, so many oblivious drivers in Los Angeles seem to do it whenever possible, even when it never makes sense to do so. Furthermore, they often do it badly, like the old man driving this white Toyota Tacoma pickup (license plate 6B40) who blatantly ran the red light at Kester while traveling east on Burbank Blvd. The light turned yellow a good couple hundred feet out, and as we started slowing down in the #2 lane, we saw this guy in the #1 lane to our left zip past us and run the red well after the light changed. Fortunately, this happened on a lazy weekend afternoon where there weren’t many cars on the road, which then causes one to wonder what is the friggen rush on a slow day with very little traffic on the streets. This guy didn’t get very far, either, as he just ended up stopping a block later at the intersection of Van Nuys and Burbank (there was no way to run that red since cars on Van Nuys were already zipping back and forth through the intersection). When we inevitably caught up to him and pulled up beside him, we saw a clueless senior slouched over his wheel with headphones in both ears. Ah, another dilemma that for some reason is hotly debated on this site, despite the multiple instances of people sharing their stories of getting cited by police officers for wearing ear buds in both ears. Clearly, this particular driver needs to pay more attention to the road and traffic conditions around him than less, so tuning the world out even further with headphones probably isn’t the brightest idea. His eventual destination? The Ralph’s parking lot right after you cross Van Nuys….now you tell me if that illusion of getting to point B faster was actually worth running that red.
