The old geezer driving this Lincoln (I think?), license plate 4YBC (likely L.A. native), has definitely developed some seriously bad driving habits and really needs to check his priorities. We first noticed him pulling out of the gas station at Sepulveda and Burbank Blvd. and attempt to enter the #1 through lane on westbound Burbank in front of us. I slowed up to let him merge in front, at which point he did, though he didn’t cut his wheel properly and ended up diagonally across two lanes. Fine, that happens–no big deal. However, he then proceeded to buckle his seat belt while stopped in front of us, which is a strange habit that a lot of long-time, L.A. native, baby boomers have developed. What is so hard about buckling your seat belt before you shift your car from park? Can someone please tell me why so many blue hairs do this?

Anyway, he really started to piss me off when the light turned green. At that exact moment, he suddenly noticed something tucked under his windshield wiper that he had to remove at that exact moment. Really? Need I remind him that we’re at Burbank and Sepulveda? This isn’t some random intersection at East Cupcake and Ukelele…there are lots of cars that move through here, and this guy didn’t have the semblance of mine to remove the offensive valet ticket stub or whatever it was under his wiper while at the gas station. Nor could he wait until he got off the road, apparently, and he thought it a brilliant and perfectly acceptable idea to get out of his car, block traffic, and appease his OCD right then and there. As he ran in and out of his car, he did give us a hurried apology, though in my mind that still doesn’t excuse his brazen lack of priorities. The kicker to make matters worst was that he hurriedly got on the freeway and then started to speed off into the distance, passing cars as he was gunning it way past the speed limit. Was he trying to make up for lost time at this point, or was he trying to appease the drivers he was holding up? Here’s a newsflash gramps: getting into an accident because of reckless driving is going to hold up everyone on the road even more. So get your head on straight, clear your windshield before you get in your car, buckle your seat belt before you start driving away, and don’t drive like a runaway freight train….then we’re square.
